Disaster Food Assistance (D-SNAP) Relief Approved for Areas Hit by March 14-15 and April 2-22 Storms and Tornadoes

(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.)  — Residents in areas hit by a series of strong storms and tornadoes on March 14-15 and April 2-22 may be eligible for SNAP Disaster Assistance (D-SNAP) under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, authorized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Services, the Arkansas Department of Human Services announced today.

Anyone that resided within one of the zip codes below who suffered disaster losses during the storms may be eligible to receive this D-SNAP assistance. The tables below detail the specific zip codes within each county eligible for assistance in either the March 14-15 or the April 2-22 storms.

D-SNAP extends benefits to many households that would not ordinarily qualify but suddenly need food assistance because of a disaster.D-SNAP benefits are provided via an electronic debit-like card and can be used to purchase food items at authorized retailers. Recipients do not have to be enrolled in SNAP to receive D-SNAP assistance.

Residents from these counties who experienced at least one of the following conditions as a direct result of the March 14-15 storms or the April 2-22 storms may be eligible:

  • Damage to or destruction of their home or self-employment business
  • Loss or inaccessibility of income including a reduction or termination of income, or a significant delay in receiving income due to disaster-related problems
  • Disaster-related expenses (home or business repairs, temporary shelter, evacuation, etc.) that are not expected to be reimbursed during the disaster benefit period

Residents or workers seeking D-SNAP may apply from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. beginning Monday, August 4 through Sunday, August 10. If you are having difficulty, please reach out to your local county office. Recipients of D-SNAP assistance must have lived in the disaster area at the time of the tornado and must have suffered loss or damages.

DHS set this new application period in consultation with USDA to ensure the system was operative and that Arkansans impacted by these storms have time to submit applications. Residents and workers seeking D-SNAP who previously reached out to DHS about applying will receive instructions on filling out a formal application during the Aug. 4-Aug. 10 submission period.
